PAYING IT FORWARD FOR HOMELESS AND TRAFFICKED YOUTH
Oprah Winfrey extended a helping hand in renovating the facilities of Covenant House California’s Los Angeles campus, which offers shelter, food, medical care, career and education services, and a home filled with unconditional love to local at-risk youth, after Covenant House Los Angeles case manager Alex Molina informed Oprah of the campus’ need to be updated and upgraded.
Oprah called on designer Jeremiah Brent to bring new life to Covenant House Los Angeles, who enlisted help from many volunteers in the surrounding community.
“It was a complete honor to work with the spectacular team at Covenant House. Together, we put in a lot of hard work for the most important cause: the future. Everyone was so gracious throughout the whole process and we are incredibly grateful of the outcome. I couldn’t be more proud with what we were able to accomplish together and what it stands for. The Covenant House is family now.” – Jeremiah Brent
The overhaul included changes to the resident bedrooms, the lobby area, and the common areas, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere in every part of the campus. The resident’s laundry facilities also received updated washers and dryers, which was an essential upgrade from their previous temperamental appliances.
With furniture, appliances, and other necessities provided by IKEA, Maytag, Pier 1 Imports, Smith & Noble, and Living Spaces, the Covenant House Los Angeles campus has been brought into the 21st century. New beds, desks, and lighting, among other new additions, create spaces for youth at Covenant House to feel more comfortable and at home while on campus. The beautiful renovated spaces give residents a place to thrive and move forward into a brighter future.
BE A PART OF OUR HOME CLUB
In honor of Oprah’s transformational gift to Covenant House California (CHC), we invite you to be a part of our HOME CLUB. It’s for those who are inspired by her make-over at CHC to “pay it forward for homeless & trafficked youth”. With your passion and generosity, please join us in ending youth homelessness in California.
With your help, 100% of the funds raised through the HOME CLUB will be utilized to continue the work that Oprah started at CHC to increase dignity, comfort and hope to all young people that turn to us for help. These funds will enable CHC to DOUBLE the amount of homeless and trafficked young people that call CHC HOME … through the following 4 projects:
- Updating our 21-year-old Hollywood campus kitchen, bathrooms & adding 16 additional beds
- Creating a community of support in an off-site apartment building for an addition 34 youth to live off-site in Los Angeles
- Updating our existing campus in Oakland to double bed capacity and create a state of the art homeless youth services center
- Purchase a permanent home for our new Berkeley program for homeless and trafficked youth
